A failed inverter, microinverter or optimizer. Monitoring that lost its internet connection, so the system looks dead when it is not. A string that went offline after a loose connection. If production looks normal and your bill still went up, the cause may be higher usage or a rate change from your utility.
An error code means the inverter found a fault, such as a grid problem, a ground fault or a failed part. The code depends on the brand. Take a photo of the display and send it when you call.
Sometimes the system is fine and the monitoring lost its internet connection. Sometimes the system really stopped. A quick check of the inverter display tells you which.
