Solar Pool Heater Removal & Reinstall for Roof Replacement in Central Florida
If you heat your pool with the sun, those panels on your roof aren’t electric — they’re a solar pool heating system, and they have to come off before your roof can be replaced. The trouble is that most roofers won’t remove them and most solar companies only work on electric panels. AllSolar Energy is one of the few licensed contractors in Central Florida that removes and reinstalls solar pool heaters for roof replacements. We’ve done it since 1999.
Your solar pool heater has to come off before a reroof
A solar pool heating system is a set of black collector panels plumbed into your pool’s circulation loop. They sit right on the roof deck, held by straps or mounts and connected by supply and return lines. A roofer can’t tear off and replace the roof underneath them, so the panels, headers, and plumbing all have to be removed first — then reinstalled once the new roof is on. This is the pool-heat version of a solar detach and reset, and it takes a plumber’s care as much as a roofer’s.
Why most roofers and solar companies won’t touch it
Roofers don’t want the liability of draining, disconnecting, and re-plumbing a pressurized pool loop, and they won’t warranty a leak that shows up later. Electric-only solar installers, meanwhile, simply don’t work on thermal systems. That leaves a lot of homeowners stuck — told they need a new roof, but with no one willing to move the pool panels. That’s exactly the gap AllSolar fills.
How we remove and reinstall solar pool heating systems
Our process is straightforward and coordinated with your roofer:
- We drain the system and disconnect the supply and return lines.
- We remove the collector panels, headers, and roof straps or mounts, and set them aside safely.
- Your roofer replaces the roof with a clear deck to work on.
- We remount the panels, re-plumb the loop, and reconnect to your pool equipment.
- We recharge the system, pressure-check every connection, and confirm it’s heating before we leave.
If any collector or header is cracked, brittle, or leaking, we’ll flag it before it goes back up so you’re not paying to reinstall a failing panel.
Solar hot water systems too
The same is true for solar hot water (domestic water heating) collectors. These heat the water for your home instead of your pool, and they also have to be detached for a reroof. AllSolar removes, reinstalls, drains, and recharges solar water heating systems, and leak-tests them before reactivating. Whether it’s pool heat, hot water, or electric PV, we handle all three — most companies only do one.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I really have to remove my solar pool heater to replace the roof?
Yes. The collector panels sit directly on the roof deck and are plumbed into your pool loop, so the roof can’t be torn off and replaced underneath them. They must be removed first and reinstalled on the new roof.
My roofer says they won’t touch the pool panels. Who does that?
AllSolar does. Most roofers won’t drain and re-plumb a pool loop, and most solar installers only work on electric panels. We’re a licensed contractor that removes and reinstalls solar pool heating and solar hot water systems for reroofs.
What does solar pool heater removal and reinstall cost?
It depends on the number of collector panels, the plumbing runs, your roof type, and the condition of the existing system. We give a firm, itemized quote after inspecting it, with no hidden fees.
Will you check the system for leaks before turning it back on?
Always. After we remount the panels and re-plumb the loop, we recharge the system and pressure-check every connection, confirming it heats properly before we consider the job done.
Can you also handle my solar hot water heater during a reroof?
Yes. We remove, reinstall, drain, recharge, and leak-test solar water heating collectors the same way we do pool-heat panels. We handle pool heat, hot water, and electric PV.
